Don’t Wait For A Breakthrough – Create One!
Action Precedes The Breakthrough
I am so glad you’re here. I had quite a breakthrough, at least in my thinking, and I wanted to share it with you as soon as possible. A lot of times, we wait for a breakthrough to take action. It’s usually waiting for us to be able to not be afraid of the thing that we’re trying to do. What I found was so interesting. It is realizing in the moment of having a breakthrough, “I’ve been doing this scared for a while, and I had a breakthrough.” That is what makes it happen.
Stop waiting to feel fearless before you act. The breakthrough comes after you do the scary thing anyway. Share on XWhy Courage Follows Execution
A lot of us wait for the courage to do something. The courage is going to come while you’re doing it. A lot of us wait to know how to do something in order to do it. You’re going to learn how to do it as you’re doing it. Candidly, that’s why imposter syndrome is such a thing. All of us have it because, so many times, when we first start doing things, we don’t know what we’re doing. This was such a huge defining thought for me that doing the scary thing and taking the action is what causes the breakthrough. The breakthrough doesn’t happen beforehand. We’re never going to feel ready. We get ready as we’re doing it.
Learning Mindsets From Toddlers
When you think about it, there is no better example of this than kids. They have the best mindsets. I’m talking about little kids. I’m talking about toddlers. They will go for it whether they can do it or not. Let’s think of some examples. How many of you have seen a tiny child scare the shit out of everyone by jumping in the pool as if they’ve always known how to swim, and they do not? How many of you have seen a toddler run into the road like they know what they’re doing? They’re going for it.

I saw an older child who was probably 7 or 8-years-old. There were street performers in New York City, and they were all doing their cool thing. One of them did a backflip. You know how they do crazy acrobatics out of nowhere. This kid is dancing along, bebopping, and decides he’s going to try and do a backflip, too. He had never done one before in his life. You can tell, but he did a pretty good job. Someone randomly caught him and helped him finish it, so he didn’t land on his head or anything.
When you leap before you feel ready, the momentum you create helps you finish strong. Share on XThe New York Street Performer Lesson
It was a terrifying moment and an awe-inspiring moment. Why? It’s because he didn’t wait to know how to do it. He did it, and it worked out. If you ask me, the universe was that person who jumped in and helped him not hit his head and finish that flip. It was amazing. This kid can do a back flip. He’s going to get better. He’s going to be able to do it on his own. The breakthrough of being able to do it happened while he was executing it. He wasn’t waiting for how to know how to do it, and many could do it.
Stop Buying Out Of The Learning Curve
I’m thinking of all of you entrepreneurs who have started your businesses, and you’re trying to hire your way out of the learning curve like crazy. You’re like, “If I buy this, I’ll know what to do. If I pay this person to tell me, I’ll be there.” Guess what? Those things have their time and place, but what is going to get you moving in your business is doing the reps. Share about what it is that you’re doing. Talk to people. Share the product or service that you have. Do the scary thing.
