What if being the exception could either work against you or work in your favor?
In this episode, April Shprintz shares the difference between using “I’m the exception” to convince yourself that good things happen to other people but not to you, and believing you could be the person someone says yes to.
This isn’t about entitlement. It’s about self-belief, confidence, and being willing to ask instead of deciding the answer is no before you ever give someone the opportunity to say yes.

The Right and Wrong Way to Be the Exception
Why Being the Exception Starts With Believing You Are
Thank you for joining me for Winning Mindset Mastery. I am so glad you’re here.
I’m super excited about what we’re going to talk about today because it drives everything you want to get in life.
I’m gonna tell you about the right way and the wrong way to be an exception.
And that might be kind of weird for those of you who listen to me all the time because I don’t normally say there’s that many wrong ways to do things.
But there are definitely some wrong ways to make yourself an exception. So let me tell you what those are.
The Wrong Way to Make Yourself an Exception
First of all, wrong way to make yourself an exception:
“Oh, that’ll never happen for me. That’s just for other people.”
Another way that is the wrong way to make yourself an exception is:
“That works for everybody else but me.”
Another one is to say:
“Oh gosh, you know, that happened to me that one time. It was a special circumstance. There’s no reason I should expect good things to happen again.”
Not an exception.
The Ways I Want You to Be the Exception
These are the ways that I want you to focus on being an exception.
First one:
“Worst thing they can say is no. Of course they’ll make an exception for me.”
Number two:
“They’re gonna be saying yes to somebody. It may as well be me.”
Number three:
“Maybe they’ve never thought about it this way and they’ll make an exception for me.”
They’re gonna be saying yes to somebody. It may as well be me. Share on X
There are so many ways that you can and are the exception.
And all you have to do is believe that you are.
It’s About Your Self-Belief
90% of the time when I assume someone is going to make an exception for me, they do it.
And part of it is the confidence in knowing that it doesn’t hurt to ask anyone.
But it’s also that self-belief.
It’s understanding that in your own way, you are 100% special.
And that’s not just a mindset thing, that’s a life thing.
You matter.
You deserve an exception.

This Isn’t About Entitlement
And we’re not talking about entitlement.
We’re not talking about people who are like, “Don’t you know who I am?”
We’re talking about how you are special and you have all of these unique gifts.
And in a lot of cases, you’ve just got to ask for the exception to be made because there are rules and there are exceptions.
And you, my friend, are the exception.
