Aprils childhood home

April’s Childhood Home

Six-year-old April probably had no idea that today we’d be running a company helping entrepreneurs do the impossible all those years ago. She was too focused on gathering gravel out of that driveway above to color blue and sell as Magic Blue Rocks to ‘fix being poor’.

I feel like her first words upon hearing it would be, “took us long enough!”, and I’d have to explain perfect timing to her.

I’d share that the years between were spent finding a way go to undergrad and graduate school by joining the Air Force and living out our dream of being a news anchor to a worldwide audience of 75 million.

Then there was climbing the corporate ladder to learn marketing, client management, operations and project management before going on to be a top salesperson in a multi-billion dollar company and then again at a start-up we helped take to a $7 billion dollar IPO.

Then there’d be a tangent on how no one wanted to hire us originally…not the Air Force or any of those companies and that it took time to convince them, but that made the wins even more fun. And I’d share the news that we long ago ‘made money until money didn’t matter’ like she wanted all those years ago.

As she tapped her foot with a look of “and?” on her little face I’d remind her what all that time was really for. We had to do the impossible repeatedly so that we could help others believe it doable, and then we’d easily be able to guide them through it step by step.

She’d look and me with a smirk, raise one eyebrow and say, “But we’ll do it a lot faster for them, right?”

“Exactly.” I’d respond with a laugh. “We’ll accelerate it.”

The Generosity Culture?

The Generosity Culture® is the foundation of all the work I do with entrepreneurs and leaders. When I was just 9 years old, a business woman took an interest in me and became a life-long mentor and friend.

She showed me with her actions that there is no business or life issue that can’t be solved by asking ”How can we help?”

In Sue Harper’s honor, I created The Generosity Culture® and have partnered with companies and entrepreneurs around the world to pour into their people, their clients, and their community leading to unprecedented revenue and success.

What's In a Name

I’ve always loved hearing the stories of how brands got their names.  Nike and Spanx are a couple of my favorites.

Driven Outcomes was born out of a passionate speech I was making in my kitchen after a long conference call. I was still in the corporate world and leading several complex software sales while partnering with some very big names in the consulting industry.

The consultants I worked with were talking a lot, but adding little value and my clients were starting to ask me to come to our meetings and workshops without them.

As I ranted about how the consultants simply talked and talked without good follow up and action-taking I blurted out “It’s driving me crazy. Consultants should be as concerned about outcomes as their clients are. They should talk less and do more and drive for real results. If I have a consulting company, it will have the word outcomes in the name and the initials will be D.O. so everyone knows I get it.”

My best friend Drew laughed and said, “Write that down, you might have something there.”

The rest, as they say, is history.
