Mindset Magic From The Movie “Michael”
I am so glad you’re here. I saw the movie Michael and it was really incredible. What I loved about it was it brought me back to the way that Michael Jackson was able to make us feel with his music, with his creations. It helped me remember how this kind, soft-spoken, creative man changed the world for so many people in so many ways. He’s been gone for over 15 years. There were a lot of rumors and things that overshadowed the end of his career but this movie reminded me about all the things that were so magical about him.
Unshakable Belief
What I love is there are mindset lessons throughout this movie that we can take away. There are three big ones that are a little bit of magic for you and I that we can take with us and incorporate in our lives. The first one that struck me was his intense, unshakable belief in himself. You could see this throughout the movie in the way that he would talk to himself. He’d be getting ready to record something that was very important to him. He would say, “You are smart. You are beautiful. You are the world’s greatest.” He’s saying it to himself over and over again promoting the kind of self-talk that we all want that will enable us all to do incredible things.
Give yourself the space to create, dream, and receive what's meant to come next. Share on XHe had posted notes all over his studio and the areas where he would be creative. That reinforced the dreams that he had, the things that he believed in, and what he wanted to remind himself of. This is a really powerful practice that we could all do. The second thing that struck me was how much he visualized what he wanted. Visualizing wanting to be the greatest in the world and perform for people around the world.
When he was talking about an idea that seemed larger than life to the people that were going to help him accomplish it. He always said, “I can see it.” The videos that he did were incredible like the video for Beat It when he got rival gang members together. They were all dancing and talking to each other and connected on a level that they would never have been able to imagine. He first saw it and then he was able to do it. Which is so much of what we teach in mindset, but he was doing it so organically and so naturally.
Creating Space For Inspiration
The last thing that he did that I think all of us could do more of, myself included, was give himself some free space to create, dream and receive what he was supposed to do next. There’s this scene in the movie where he is at the family pool with his brothers. They’re giving him a hard time because he’s laying there. They’re like, “Michael, what are you doing?” He’s like, “I’m waiting to receive the music, the creative inspiration because if I don’t sit here, wait and listen for it, He’s going to give it to Prince.” The He he means in this is God.
We're all creative in our own unique ways. Share on XIt was so interesting how he really trusted that divine inspiration that he got and also valued it and would create the space for it. This is something I talk with clients about all the time because you’re not going to get that next big idea while you’re on the hustle, while you’re on the grind. You’re not going to get the thing that’s going to change your business or your job or your life while your mind is either engaged in hard work or on social media or in scrolling television. You’ve got to give yourself free space to think, free space to let your mind wander and to receive these wonderful ideas because we all get them.
We’re all creative in our own way and on our own levels. If you haven’t seen this movie and you’re someone who likes to be inspired. I encourage you to go and watch it. Take the lessons from it that can apply to your life and make it even better so that you can allow yourself to be the best version of who you are and allow your mindset to enable the things that you want most. Here’s to your success.
