Humble Beginnings & Louis Vuitton’s Journey
I am so glad you’re here. If you’ve been reading for a while or you know any of my backstory. You know I grew up with incredibly humble means. My family was on food stamps and we moved around a lot. I wanted more than anything to hear stories of people who had done things. Now a name you may or may not be familiar with, Louis Vuitton who is the creator of an incredible brand has an amazing story like this. He left home because of an abusive stepmother at the age of thirteen. He was living in France. He walked nearly 300 miles over three years to get to Paris. That’s where he would go on to build an empire.
After years and years of hard work, in one simple but revolutionary idea, he changed trunks from having dome tops to flat tops and he innovated an entire industry. He built a multibillion-dollar brand. Think about that, abuse victim and homeless at thirteen and then created a brand to date is worth over $120 billion. This was someone who when he first set out couldn’t read. For those of us who want something bigger and better for our life but think, “Only exceptional people can do it.” Sometimes, it’s the doing of it that makes you that exceptional person.
For those of us who want something bigger and better in life but think, “Oh, only really exceptional people can do it,” sometimes it’s the doing of it that makes you that exceptional person. Share on XShirin Behzadi’s Adversity & Resilience
Another example comes from a friend of mine who grew up in war-torn Iran. Shirin Behzadi was arrested and jailed as a teenager just for having a book. Her world became more and more dangerous. Her parents are out of the country at seventeen. She had to start over in the US working at a gas station, not knowing the language, all the way in LA and was completely alone. Now, she had the odds stacked against her yet she put herself through college. She earned a job in accounting and she eventually became the CEO of a company that she grew by hundreds of millions of dollars in just a few years.
Where you start doesn’t matter. Where you are now doesn’t matter. Shirin started behind bulletproof glass at a gas station and she ended up leading a billion-dollar company. These are both examples of people who grew up or were in far less than ideal circumstances, but they didn’t let those circumstances stop them because they realized that they were their possibilities. That their adversity could be turned into an advantage. You can use that as inspiration to do whatever it is in the world that you want to do that you’ve been holding off on.

All you have to do is believe you can and go for it. Here’s to your success.
