Doing This For More Than 30 Seconds Tanks Your Mindset
Stopping The Self-Blame Cycle
I am so glad you’re here. I was doing a workshop on mindset and manifesting and realized how often people go to play the shame and blame game with themselves when they feel like they’ve made a mistake. Whether this is something they’ve always done, something that they picked up from an authority figure when they were younger, something they think helps them, or something that they don’t want to do anymore, it tanks your mindset. You cannot get to an empowered place or a winning mindset from the blame and shame game.
Setting The 30-Second Fire Alarm
I am introducing a fire alarm to let you know that this needs to stop. Basically, if you mess up and go to shaming yourself or feeling guilt for what you did, it should not last any longer than 30 seconds. It should be a fire alarm. This place is on fire. Get out of the house. Most people go into a spiral and keep going down on themselves. It’s the same thing with blame. If they’re blaming what they did, or you did this wrong and did that wrong, 30 seconds. The house is on fire. Get out of the house. That’s it.
Blaming yourself after a mistake won't lead to success. Set a strict boundary on negative self-talk today. Share on XUnderstanding The Real Purpose Of Guilt
The whole purpose of guilt is to let you know that you have done something that does not align with who you are. It’s the same thing with shame. You have acted against your own values. The moment you have that information, shame or guilt have served their purpose. It’s time to decide who you want to be and how you want to act, which is in line with your values, and move forward.
Guilt isn't a permanent state. It's just a quick signal that your action didn't match your true values. Share on XWhen you do that and let it last for 30 seconds, you can get back to that empowered place and become that version of you who doesn’t do those things right away. If you stay in that place, you’re more likely to repeat these behaviors over and over again. Remember, we get more of what we focus on. If we are focusing on how we keep messing up, like, “This is such a problem. We always do this. We’re such a loser. We’re so stupid. We’re so terrible.” You’re manifesting all those things. You are making sure that you notice all those things about yourself far more than all the wonderful great things you do.
You don't need to be hard on yourself to succeed. Positive self-talk drives real performance. Share on XDropping The Tough Love Fallacy
For those of you who believe, “I have to be hard on myself so I’ll do the right thing.” You don’t. You’re being hard on the old version of you that you decided not to be. You’re not going to do the things that don’t align with your values. The moment you decide that you’re going to be that person that doesn’t do the things that brought shame and blame into your environment, you are that person. You don’t need anything but the best self-talk from that moment on.
Stop losing days to shame spirals. Set a 30-second cap on self-criticism and keep moving forward. Share on XAdopting Supportive Self-Talk
I want you to practice this with me. The next time you mess up, know you’ve got a 30 second timer on being tough on yourself, and then you’re going to treat yourself like you treat the people in your life that you love the most. Your kids, your significant other, and your bestest friend, how would you react to them if they had done the thing that you did? That’s the kind of kindness, love, and mindset perspective that you deserve.
Reclaiming Your Time And Energy
If you implement this, and this is the thing you change about your mindset, you are going to get more of what you want more often because you will not lose those hours, days, and weeks being in that shame spiral that keeps you from doing all of the amazing things that you’re here for. Give this a try and let me know how it works for you. Here’s to your success.
