Here’s something you may never thought of: How rejection can actually be a good thing. How rejection, if we have the right attitude and a winning mindset, can redirect us to something so much better than we had before. Strange as it may seem, rejection can actually be something you are grateful for. Consider the story of Barbara Corcoran. She built a billion-dollar real estate empire and then was a star of the hit TV show, Shark Tank. She’s done some truly remarkable things. Strangely enough, without a painful personal betrayal that led to a massive shakeup in her business, she might not have experienced anywhere near her current level of success, and we may never have heard of her. Do you want to hear the rest of Barbara’s intriguing, inspiring story including the reason she’s actually glad this betrayal happened to her? Then tune into episode 27 of the Winning Mindset Mastery Podcast!

Hate Rejection? This Simple Secret Can Change The Game
In this episode, I want to talk about a topic you may never have thought of before. As you start to think of it this way, it will open up an entirely new world to you. What if we look at rejection as redirection? Meaning, you may not get the thing that you think you want but later on, just a small amount into the future, you’re going to be so grateful that you didn’t because of what it led you to and where it redirected you.
Let me give you a few examples. One that I absolutely love is Barbara Corcoran. If you’re not familiar with her, she has a huge billion-dollar real estate empire and has developed a huge net worth in New York real estate, and then became one of the investors on Shark Tank. She’s done some incredible things. What’s so funny though is early in her story, her business partner was also the other half of her life or her significant other. She found out that her boyfriend was cheating on her with their assistant in her company.
Not only did she have to go through a breakup and go through a mad scramble to develop her own company, but she had to do both of those things at once with very little notice because she wasn’t able to make payroll and keep things going. What’s so crazy is his doing that motivated her to build her entire empire. She may not have become the Barbara Corcoran we know if that hadn’t happened. As a matter of fact, she talks about how glad she is that it did happen.
Let’s talk about someone else. A young lady by the name of Deepica Mutyala was working at L’Oreal, the largest makeup brand in the world. She loved it there and learned how to develop a product from start to finish. She interned there hoping to get a job and didn’t get hired. At the time, I’m sure she was incredibly disappointed. That rejection motivated her to start her own company. She is now the CEO of Live Tinted, an amazing makeup brand geared towards Indian women and anyone who has more pigment and color in their skin. Something that she never would’ve done without that rejection from L’Oreal.
One more example. I love this one. Not just because I love the product, but I just love everything about it. Kara Goldin started a little company about ten or more years ago called Hint Water. She was trying to give up diet soda. She couldn’t find anything to drink that wasn’t boring because she thought that water wasn’t interesting enough. She needed a little something else. She didn’t want anything artificial. She didn’t want any sweeteners. She couldn’t find anything even at Whole Foods or places like that.
She created her own drink by boiling the skins of fruits. She called around some of the big beverage providers. One of those is Coca-Cola. She shared her idea. She thought it could be big for them. One of those executives rejected her idea and said something along the lines of, “Sweetie, that’s never going to sell.” Sweetie decided to do it for herself. She creates her own beverage company, even though she’d never created a product in her entire life, and went on to create a company that now is valued at over $150 million, all because somebody rejected her.
I want you to think about how many times that happens for you, and how many times that happens in your life. The next time that you experience what feels like rejection, I want you to reframe it for yourself and say, “This could be the redirection that I need. Where should I go from here?” Take it one step further, “If I knew for a fact that this was nothing but a redirection, where does my gut tell me I should go? What is my next move?”
