3 Sneaky Signs Your Mindset Is Your BIGGEST Issue
I know if you’re tuning in, you’re someone who already cares about mindset. This might be an episode that you want to share with someone who isn’t as interested in it as you are, or it might show you something that you are missing about working on your mindset. These are the three sneaky signs that your mindset could be your number one issue.
The first one is if you find yourself thinking often that everyone else is preventing your success and happiness. By everyone else, it could be one of any of these people: your boss, your partner, other drivers, the economy, big business, politicians, rich people, or whoever it is. If you feel like other people are causing all of your problems, that’s a hint that you’ve unconsciously chosen the role of the victim. Lots of people don’t want to hear this. If you are constantly choosing to be the victim, you have no power to fix what’s going on. If you choose to consistently work on your mindset, then you are choosing to be the hero. You’re realizing that you can impact a lot more about your life than you realized, and you have the power to do it right now.
If you are constantly choosing to be the victim, you have no power to fix what's going on. Share on XAll those things, people, or situations that you thought were preventing your happiness and success are just small obstacles in the way that you get to find the way through, over, under, or around. It doesn’t matter because if you’re the hero in the story, you’ll figure it out. The number one way that you know that it’s a victim mindset that’s holding you back is when you always think someone else is causing the problem.
The second sneaky way is you feel like you need to know exactly how to do every single step on the path to where you’re trying to go or you’re not going to get it. You focus on the what, not the how. Your unconscious mind, which we’ve talked about is your unpaid assistant. It knows what you want and has a store of every memory you have ever generated since you were born. It doesn’t always easily access it.
It’s like you can’t always find that file on your laptop that you know is there because you know you saved it. Your unconscious mind is aware of this information. Because of that, simply focusing on the goal you have, your unconscious mind is going to bring you opportunities, show you things you wouldn’t have noticed otherwise, and give you ideas. Trust it. Focus on the what, not the how, and you’ll get there so much easier and it’ll be more fun.
The third sneaky way is you have decided that you are going to be positive even if it kills you. Now, wait a minute. You might think, “This is a mindset podcast. Aren’t you talking about being positive?” No, I’m not. I’m talking about having a winning mindset so you feel empowered. It’s not going to work if you are what some people call spiritually bypassing. I call it toxic positivity. Whatever you call it, it is a way for you to pretend like everything is fine when deep down inside you feel awful. That is not a winning mindset. A winning mindset is thinking thoughts that help you feel more empowered and more at peace, not like you’re white-knuckling it through life.
There will be days when you are stressed out. There will be days when you can’t reach for that better feeling thought or at least moments, minutes, or hours in that day. That is okay. What is important is to find those thoughts that make you feel a little bit better. Let me think of another time. I was in a situation like this, but it ended up working out for me. Wouldn’t it be great if that’s what happened here? That’s what we’re talking about with a winning mindset. We’re not talking about saying, “It’s great. I love it.” No, we’re not gritting our teeth and pretending like things are the way we want them to be. We’re getting ourselves into the place where we can imagine what it would feel like if they were that way.
Imagining that things are already working out for you is the first step to getting them to work out for you because it calms down your nervous system. It calms down your breathing and the way that you’re thinking about this situation. You can now look at it more objectively and start to find solutions instead of acting like everything is fine, but inside, you’re feeling like you’re drowning or your head is going to explode, or no one understands you. Pretending that you have that mindset and pretending that you feel super positive is a lonely place to be.
